Memorial Biography

John Paul Menkhaus, Jr was born in Covington, KY on December 13, 1963 and died in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, MX on March 30, 2024. John is survived and mourned by his son, Louis Vincent Menkhaus, Boulder, CO, mother, Linda Wilson Campbell, Fort Myers, FL, brother, Timothy J. Menkhaus, Cincinnati, OH, sister, Courtney J. Campbell, Fort Myers, Fl. His father, John Paul Menkhaus, Sr, Alpharetta, GA, died February 24, 2024. He is also mourned by his former wife, Dana Patek Skinner, step-father, William N. Campbell, step-mother, Susan Menkhaus, girlfriend, Lidia Hernandez Bernardino, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. John graduated from Murray High School, Murray, KY, attended the University of Kentucky on a music scholarship, and graduated with a double major in Music and Political Science. He was a Rhodes Scholar candidate and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. At graduation, for the first time in the history of the Senior Awards, John received both the Sullivan Medallion and the Singletary Award. John received scholarship offers to Vanderbilt Law School and the University of Kentucky College of Law. He attended UK College of Law but decided law wasn't for him and went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company (SBC) in the College Hire program. His first job was as an Intallation and Repair Manager in Kansas City, MO. From there he moved to St. Louis as a 2nd Level IT Manager, then to San Antonio, TX as a 3rd Level Marketing Manager, then a 5th Level where he was Vice President of Product Development. His last position was as Vice President of Property Management. He retired after 29 years with SBC and AT&T. John loved his University of Kentucky basketball and football teams and followed them religiously year after year. After retiring John moved from Dallas, TX to Saint James City,FL where he made many friends on Cherry Lane. He loved sitting on his screened-in porch watching the manatees and dolphins in the canal behind his house. He could sometimes be heard talking, though not always quietly, to the television when his UK teams were playing! He moved to MX 1 1/2 years ago where he went into business. He was cremated and his ashes were interred at his girlfriend's family mausoleum in Oaxaca City, Oaxaca, MX. No services are planned.
